Veils, Veils, Veils

Written by Decadent Details Assistant, Hailey Perry

So you have found your wedding gown, and now it is time to choose accessories to match. Veils have played a key role in weddings for years. Historically, a veil was thought to protect a bride from bad spirits. Now, we see it as another traditional adornment of a beautiful bride. Bride’s have endless choices when it comes to deciding on their veil, however there are factors to determine the right look. You want a beautiful veil, but it must be in proportion with your overall look. Take time to consider your gown style and color, embellishments, hairstyle, and the venue before deciding on a veil.

Your Dress

Every bride falls in love with a dress, and it is important to remember you want to be seen radiantly in your dress. If your dress has a certain detail or embellishment that you want to be visible, do not cover it up with your veil. However, if you have chosen a more simple dress and wish to dress it up with a detailed veil be aware of that as well.

Too much detail is considered messy and chaotic, so keep that in mind. If your dress is detailed and highly embellished, a simple veil will complete your look without it looking like there is too much going on. Vice versa, if your dress is simple, you might pick an intricate veil to complete your look.

Whether your have chosen a gown that is classic, romantic, or sophisticated, a veil should always work as an accessory to the look and tie in with details to complete your stunning aesthetic.

Different Types of Veils

Bird Cage Veil - very short veils that do not extend past the chin. If your bridal gown has a high neck detail, a detailed back, or an embellished neckline, this type of veil can work well.

Shoulder Length Veil - shoulder length veils are around 20 inches in length. They are perfect for dresses that have bust, waist, or lower back details. They provide just enough to not overpower your gown.
Elbow Length Veil - approximately 25 inches long and true to its name, this veil falls to around the elbow. They can dress up a romantic ball gown style dress, offering an end where the fullness in the skirt begins.

Fingertip Length Veil - one of the most popular lengths, reaching around your fingertips at about 36 inches. They are popular because they can work with most dress designs.

Ballet Length Veil - can run from around 60 to 72 inches. They begin at the knee and go to the floor or ankle. They are great accessories to full length gowns that do not have a train.

Chapel Length Veil - slightly shorter then cathedral veils, just draping the flood. They are typically around 90 inches in length. They are best paired with dresses that feature a simple train.

Cathedral Length Veil - the longest length and most formal, these veils are usually around 120 inches long and some extend up to nine feet along the ground. They work best with full length, classic wedding gowns without a train.  They add a very detailed and delicate look to any gown.

Colors

Your veil should be a remarkable accessory, so make sure it matches. You do not want your veil to be shades off from your gown. Make sure your supplier will match the color of your gown. You can also work with a glossy, shimmer look that will add a feminine touch to any gown.

Hairstyle

You will be spending time on your hair before the wedding. Consider this when selecting a veil. If you want to show off your “do” you will want a light veil. If you are wanting more focus on the veil, pick a hairstyle that will not distract or cause the “messy” look.

Wedding Venue

Think about the venue. You do not want to be sweating outside all day under a veil, or the veil to be blown around by the wind. You also do not want to give a small venue a more crowded look with a cathedral veil. However, if you are in a rather large room that could use a little more detail to create the romantic feel, a long and detailed cathedral veil would be perfect.

Pick the perfect veil.  It is a fabulous accessory to compliment the bride’s attire and will add a romantic aspect to any ceremony.  With all the different styles to choose from, you will be sure to find a veil that is perfect for you.

Up or Down-HAIR!

Written by Decadent Details Events Assistant, Hailey Perry

As women, the last thing any of us want is a bad hair day, especially on the biggest day of our lives! Deciding on a hair style, not only for the bride but for bridesmaids as well, can be quiet the challenge. You want something that stands out, matches your theme, and is going to stand the test of time, or at least the ceremony and reception! We suggest that you do a “trial” run with your stylist to ensure that you like the “do” on you, and that it will stand the long day. This “trial” run will also help to determine the time you will need before the day begins. When it comes to the bridesmaids, keep in mind the time restraints and the variety of face shapes you will be working with. If it is a simple “do” the ladies will have more time to devote to your needs and the things that need to be accomplished before the ceremony begins.

We thought after giving you a few pointers about hair decisions, we would also provide you with a variety of styles that would accompany a number of different wedding themes. Here you are! For the brides looking for a sleek and sophisticated “up-do” to carry into their elegant theme, here are a few ideas:

What To Do With All That Wedding Stuff

Written by Decadent Details Events Assistant, Hailey Perry

So the wedding day is over, you are back from the honeymoon, and now you have all this stuff. We are not talking gifts, just all the extra wedding day decorations, invitations, centerpieces, photos galore, and the other ceremonial pieces. Now you are thinking, “just what am I going to do with all of this?” Use it, sell it, or give it away, just do not pack it all up in storage.

Between you and the groom, there will already be an overflow of gifts, furniture, clothes, and furnishings that will need to be put away and stored. Take your wedding items as an opportunity to decorate the house or to make some cash. Here are a few tips on what to do with all the wedding day items.

The Vows

Have your vows placed on a canvas as wall art. You can have your vows put onto plates, pillows, or even made into a little book. Your vows have meaning and not all the visitors in your home will have attended your wedding, so what better way to show off the love in your marriage.

The Gown

If you are not attached to your dress, reselling is popular or donating it to a cause like Brides Against Breast Cancer or for military brides with Brides across America. However if you are attached to it, keep it. One day a daughter or daughter-in-law might want to wear your gown. Until that day, you can frame it. You can have it framed professionally, or do it yourself to save money. We know the dress is a big deal, so make it just that.

The Centerpieces

If you buy centerpieces or make them, you might want to think about what you will be doing with them afterward, verses just renting them. If you incorporate vases or other decorations, use them in your house. If you have ample, give a few to the honored guests. Think creatively and show those gorgeous pieces off.

The Shoes

Wear them again! When you deciding on your wedding shoe, choose something that you can wear again and again. No shoe deserves to just be worn once. No matter the color or style you choose, it is certain that you will be able to wear them again with another stunning outfit.

The Bouquet
You can preserve a floral bouquet in many different ways. You can have it professionally done or you can do it by plucking the petals and arranging it yourself. If you have a brooch bouquet, use it as decor in your office or bedroom. It can serve as an heirloom item for your kids or grandkids.

The Music

If you hand selected all of the music played at your wedding, have it put on a cd to keep and listen to again and again. Whether you and your husband are celebrating your anniversary, driving around in the car, or whether you two are just dancing in the living room, the music holds memories close to your heart. You can even detail your cd to make it extra special!

The Rest

Feel free to create a “snap shot” shadow box! Take an invitation add the garter and veil and few wedding photos, and all of the guests who come into your home can visualize your perfect day.

Another tip on keeping your overflow of items down is take into consideration when planning decor if you already own pieces or furniture that can be used.  It will not only save you money, but will keep you from having “left-overs” that you have no use for.  The possibilities for your wedding items are endless.  Get creative and keep things you want, it is okay to get rid of the rest.  Have fun saving your wedding memorabilia!

Tips on How to Compile Your Guest List

Written by Decadent Details Assisant, Hailey Perry

It’s the wedding topic every couple hates to discuss, but for most it’s essential... how to compile the best guest list.  So, how do you determine who gets an invite and who doesn’t.  It can be a tough issue, but for brides who want an small intimate wedding or brides who are working on a budget, it is very important.

After doing some research of my own, here is a compiled list of ten tips to determining who is in and who is out.

1. Pre-determine the number of people you can invite. Whether it’s the venue capacity, or your own budget, you and your groom must decide on a realistic number of attendees.

2. Sit down with your fiance and make two categories. One for “must invite” such as family and close friends, and the second for “want to invite”. This will allow you to visually see what kind of numbers you are working with.

3. Since the first group were “must invite”, deduct that number from your pre-determined guest number. That will be how many you can afford or fit in from the second category.

4. Do not feel obligated to invite family that you are not close with. It’s hard to leave off family, but your fourth cousin, most likely, is not that close of a friendship.

5. Do not feel pressured to invite all of your work colleagues. As happy as they are for you and your fiance, They will understand guest number restraints.

6. Distance will affect whether your guest can make it or not. Ask yourself, “Will he or she possibly make it to attend?” If your answer is no, then scratch them off the list, and just send them a wedding picture.

7. While high school and college friends are great to share memories with, are they exactly who you want to spend your celebration with. You do not need to feel pressured to invite the entire class of 2004, just invite the friends you are still close with.

8. While your parents are a part of your special day, there is no need to invite all of their friends. Family friends are great, but if you are looking to cut down your guest list, remember that both you and your fiance are wanting to invite your own friends.

9. Do not let social media run away with your list. Yes, you might have 2,000 friends on Facebook, but are you actually close to those people? Plus, they will see your posted pictures online!

10. Lastly, if you are looking for a small intimate wedding or if you are on a budget, look at doing away with the “plus one”. It is not ideal, but if you are working with a specific number, it might be essential.

We hope that this process will be as painless as it can possibly be, or that you already have your perfect guest number. If not, we hope these tips will help you in compiling your perfect guest list!
