What Inspires You

What inspires you? Architecture, pieces of jewelry, vacation location, sculptures…? When you choose your wedding colors, themes and; style, what is it that gets you to that “ah-ha” moment when you know that you’ve seen exactly what it is you want your perfect day to be like? Pantone’s 2011 Color of the Year, Honeysuckle, is described as “Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world” (Source).

An absolutely, wonderful flower to be inspired by! It has hues of pink, red, peach, raspberry, orange - and; can be paired with so many other fabulous colors!

“Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it” (Source).

The Orange Shoes

Our “Green Bride”, Melissa, wore her mother's veil and had jewelry from women in her family melted down and formed to create her wedding band.

Bamboo plates and flatware rolled up inside a recycled paper bag.

Invitations made from flower-seed paper that guests could plant after the wedding and; Tennessee Orange wine!

Melissa is a huge UT fan...so of course, she wore orange shoes which her groom, Brandon, picked out for her!

Melissa's additional eco-friendly and/or DIY's within her wedding day:
  • Uncle Bobby catered BBQ
  • Aunt Regina created beautiful floral decor
  • Mom, JoAnn, baked and decorated over 150 cupcakes
  • Birdseed favors handmade by Bride and Groom
  • Centerpieces created by Bride's Dad, Mike
  • Table runners hand stitched by Bride's Mom, JoAnn
  • Flower children wagon beautifully painted and decorated by Bride's parents

Your Glass Slipper

Cinderella’s magic glass slipper led Prince Charming to her. Although most wedding shoes are not as famous, they have played an important part throughout history.

Anglo-Saxon brides had the tradition of tossing their shoes instead of bouquets to bridesmaids who hoped to be the next in line to marry.  Brides in old England followed the directive that they wear “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue—and a sixpence in her shoe” by tucking coins into their wedding slippers.

Queen Victoria inspired millions of modern-day brides by choosing a white gown and white shoes for her wedding in 1840. Until then, blue was the color of choice for bridal ensembles.  Princess Diana, chose low-heeled, pearl-encrusted, ivory silk flats for her wedding, so as not to tower over Prince Charles.

Today's brides make the journey from once upon a time to happily ever after in all manner of magic slippers -- high heels, low heels, sandals, pumps and even bejeweled flip-flops, says Anna Pezik, senior editor at Brides.com. Although some brides stick with the traditional white satin pump, many brides are choosing a shoe which reflects their own individual style.

Designers such as Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman, Kenneth Cole and Manolo Blahnik have filled shelves with wedding pumps, slingbacks, sandals and ballet flats in bronze, silver, gold and pewter metallic shades and soft pastels, as well as ivory and white. Detailing includes bows, beading, embroidery and lace. Heel heights and silhouettes range from flat to stiletto. Toes can be open, closed, pointed, rounded or squared.

The brides shoe can help create the atmosphere of the wedding. In fact, bridal shoes are so beautiful that brides are choosing styles they can wear again and not for just one day.

Brides planning beach weddings have stylish choices that go beyond the humble rubber flip-flop. "Stuart Weitzman makes an adorable jelly sandal with crystal accents and kitten heels," Pezik says. "You can also find bridal beach footwear with wedge heels and platform heels."

Even for the trendiest brides, tradition can still play a role. Several designers, including Fifi, line bridal footwear with azure-colored fabric to meet the “something blue” requirement.

So no matter what your shoe style is, there are many to choose from when you marry your handsome prince!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We aren't sure who wrote this originally, but received it by email and just had to share!  Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

What is Your Fashion Trend Fav this Season?

Well of course we had to start with the shoes!  ;)  And we absolutely love White House | Black Market so our fashion trend fav's this season include the beautiful peeptoe heels - suedes, florals, booties, all of them!

As White House | Black Market's website so eloquently expresses, "the feel of cashmere, the rustle of silk, it's just like a dream", we adore these soft cashmere sweaters and silk, organza tops!

Each of these 3 pieces can be work-to-dinner pieces.  Match the cashmere sweater with a great pencil skirt or the silk tops with black trousers and a jacket when you walk out the door to make that 9am meeting then leave the jacket in the car as you arrive for cocktails at 6pm!  Check out these awesome jackets:

Don't forget to accessorize!  Complete your look with chunky necklaces and bracelets.

Or throw on a cute hate and wrap a ruffle scarf around for that cozy, yet sophisticated, look! Love love love these pieces!

Mix and match these fashions to keep you on top of the trend throughout the rest of the cold season.  Check back with us in March though!

We can't forget to remind you - while you are visiting White House | Black Market's website, you MUST click on the Bridal Collection!  Ooolala!!!
